Fertility, and why it’s not just about babies!

Hey Gorgeous,

Starting a family couldn’t be further from my mind at the moment, my current world wouldn’t allow the time and dedication to raise a little person. But we have to talk about fertility, and I believe modern women aren’t having this conversation enough!

Fertility isn’t just about making babies. What!? That’s right gorgeous, fertility and rather infertility is a reflection of overall health. Sex hormones are the drivers behind our fertility, and not enough of these legends has more impact than just the inability to conceive. Not being able  to relax or keep calm, feeling sad or anxious (especially before our period), tender breasts and acne can all be a consequence of low sex hormones. These hormones (warning scientific chat coming up but stick with me) progesterone and oestrogen are made by ovaries but also by the adrenal glands. Adrenal glands have lots of jobs, but making stress hormones are their big role, and over stimulation of these guys means they have to prioritise their work (and fair enough!). If you are living in a constant state of stress, they will be working hard and will park the idea of making sex hormones until the stress is over. But guess what gorgeous? We aren’t switching off.

I am going to dive into stress management and why you deserve rest at a later date, but for now you need to know this, prolonged stress in the short term will make you feel like crap, and in the long term can halt baby making plans.

Take time for you, and like your adrenals, prioritise your commitments. It is normal to be stressed about a deadline, but is it acceptable to feel on edge because you are juggling the career, friendships, relationships and social pressures? Nope.

Thinking about your fertility NOW and making changes to how you live and the respect you show your body can improve your chances of conceiving in the future.

xx
